|HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT?
Good morning and blessings to all who read and study these scriptures.
I have been talking with a friend, of many years ago, for the last two months on a daily basis. God is
calling her to a greater understanding and a deeper walk with Him, so we have been studying the
scriptures together, encouraging and increasing our faith.
When I woke up Tuesday morning, my thoughts were, how much do you want? These thoughts kept
going over and over in my mind. I said, “Lord, You must be going to show me something, here I am.”
I was drawn to Ezekiel 47:2-8
(HI-lited by me for emphasis)
He brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that
faces east: and there was water, running out on the right side.
And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and
he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles.
Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees.
Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist.
Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep,
water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed.
He said to me, “Son of man have you seen this?” Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of
When I returned there, along the bank of the river were very many trees on one side and the other:
Then he said to me, “This water flows toward to eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters
the sea. When it reaches the sea its waters are healed.
And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go will live.
There is so much to see here. I will hit some points, you can study to see much, much more; and we
will continue again next week.
Notice in verse 2 he talks about leading around the ‘outside’ of the outer gate, that faces ‘east’; and
runs out on the ‘right’ side. When I read this I thought when God calls us out into service for Him, we
must go ‘outside’ the normal flow. We must be willing to step out and believe He is guiding us. In the
words, Facing ‘east’ I see Jesus who came from the ‘east’, (Matthew 2:2) sitting at the ‘right’ hand of
the Father (Luke 22:62) saying, ‘Lift up your heads, because your redemption draws neigh.” (Luke 21:
28) I cannot neglect where he said ‘there was water running out’. That means to me, the power of the
Holy Spirit, Who is always flowing. (John 7:38) Who is our Teacher here today? The Holy Spirit is our
Teacher (John 16:13) and as we walk closer and closer, wade deeper and deeper those river(s) of
living water will flow outward from us to others.
In verse 3 I see the man comes from the ‘east’ with a ‘line’ in his hand. I see this man (Hoy Spirit) as one
guiding/leading us deeper and deeper and he is measuring our steps or progress; keeping us on the
right path. He is the Spirit of Truth and He will teach us the wisdom of God and guide us into the
knowledge and understanding of Who it is we serve. (John 14:17)
First we go ankle deep. I see us wanting to know but afraid to step out into unknown territory. Think
about the ocean waves as they come upon the shoreline. You are standing there and as the waves
come in and go out your feet are beat with broken shells and sand is sifting around and over your feet
making you sink into the sand. If you stand there long enough small fish and crabs begin nibbling at
your feet. This, we feel, is a pretty safe place, where we can still ‘control’ everything; we can step back
and be completely out of the beating waves. Spiritually this is a dangerous place to be.
Second we go knee deep. Now let us go back to the ocean shore. We are hungry to know more so we
have ventured out a little further; to our knees. In knee deep water we are swished back and forth with
the waves and we do not have as much control as we did on the shore; but we can still step back, if we
Third we go in waist deep. Now we are really getting out there. You are in just deep enough to be in
trouble; meaning you do not have complete control over things. This is where the waves toss you about
and you do not have much control at all. Spiritually people/family, maybe, are looking at you funny,
thinking you are getting ‘in too deep’, so to speak.
Now we are at a real deciding point. Do I go out where I lose ‘complete’ control of my life or do I back
off? Do I trust God ‘all the way’ or put Him back in the box so I do not offend anyone? This is a real
decision making time. This is where you really stop, listen and choose, ‘whose report you will believe.’
(Isaiah 53:1) Are we going to believe what Jesus said, that, “He would never leave nor forsake us.”
Now let us go on into deep water; water where we cannot cross; Water where we must swim. This is
where we have sold out to Jesus. It is where we do not have control of our lives, but we have
completely dedicated and consecrated our lives into His service. This is where He can begin using us
to further His kingdom.
Now ‘he’ returns us to the shore. This does no mean he has taken us backwards, on the contrary, it
means we are blessed and ready for service; ready to allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us to help
others know Him.
When we get to shore we see trees on either side of the river, beautiful trees. Then he says, ‘This
water flows toward the ‘eastern’ region, goes down into the valley and enters the sea.
I see this as blessings flowing because we have trusted the Lord through the valleys; in the deep
waters and came through in His righteousness.
Now he says, when these waters reach the sea its waters are healed. Here is where we are put on the
battlefield for our Lord. We have been through the valleys and fires and seen that Jesus was there too.
We are now ready to carry these healing waters (the Word) to the multitudes where many souls will be
saved from satan’s plan to kill and destroy. (John 10:10- I Peter 5:8))
Do you see what I see? I know there is much more here, but we will discuss more in next weeks study.
So I will end this week’s lesson/study, and ask you this question again:
