Part I

(Scriptures may be emphasized by me for clarity)

Deuteronomy 30:19-20: I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that
I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life,
that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God,
that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and
the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to
your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.

Life is full of choices. From the time we decide if we are going to get up in the
morning to deciding when we are going to retire; and everything in between.

You may be saying things like:

1. I do not have a choice I have to get up at such a time

2. I have to go to work

3. I have to pay the bills

4. I have to cook, clean, wash clothes

5. I have to get the tires changed, stop for gas

6. I have to call my mom, sister, brothers

7. I have to pay taxes

8. I have to study, pray, fast, help others

9. I have to go to church and give in the offering

And the list goes on and on and on. But my friends you do not have to do any of
those things….you choose to do them. You choose to do right or to do wrong, to
sin or live righteous.

GOD chose from the beginning of time to give us choice. Even the angels have
choice. Remember when 1/3 of the angels chose to follow Lucifer? God cast Lucifer
out of heaven…the angels chose to go with him…. Free will. (Revelation: 12:4 and 9)

I hear you saying again, ‘I have too:

I must get up, there are things to do

The bills must be paid

I must work or

I will not draw a check

The bills will not get paid

The house will be dirty

The children will be hungry

The government will put me into jail

I must study and pray

My friend, I say to you again, No, you chose to:

Get up

Go to work

Take responsibility

Pay your bills

Cook for your family

Pay your taxes

Go to church

Pray, study and help others

Call your mom, etc

It is hard to think about it that way but it is our choice to do whatever we do. God
made us that way. He said in
Genesis 1:26-27: Then God said, “Let Us make man in
Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the
sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every
creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in
the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God chose to make man. He chose to replenish the earth with light. He chose to
create trees, flowers, animals, fish, birds, etc. He chose to build a beautiful garden
for man to live in.

Now you say, ‘But we are not God. That is very true. Think of it this way if He made
us/forced us worship Him…..what has He done? If man is forced to serve is he
happy, at peace; will he love his master? God wanted man to serve Him out of love
for Him for He is love
(I John 4:8); otherwise it does not bring joy to His heart.

So we have choice. The Word speaks of having choice several times to let us
know….we have choice…..we can choose to do….to serve or not to do or serve.
We can choose to live for Him or live for satan, the enemy of our soul. Here are
some choices we make:

We choose to shed our past or allow it to hinder our walk in the Lord:

Philippians 3:13-14:

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,
forgetting
those things which are behind
and reaching forward to those things which are
ahead
. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ
Jesus
.

Galatians 5:7: You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

We choose to listen as our common enemy constantly reminds us and accuses us
of our past hoping it will cause us to believe we are not good enough to go to
heaven, or fulfill God’s calling on our life.

Revelation: 12:10: Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and
strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for
the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has
been cast down”…..

We choose to believe Jesus for total deliverance from our sins; to remember no
more and the power to tread upon our enemy
(scorpions and serpents):

Luke 10:19: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions,
and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you…”

Psalm 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our
transgressions from us….

Matthew 26:28: “For this is My blood, of the new covenant, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins….”

We choose to listen to the enemy’s schemes; sending out deceivers to destroy us:

II Peter 2:1: But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there
will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies,
even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift
destruction.

II Timothy 4:3: for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but
according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up
for themselves teachers:

We choose to believe Christ is always interceding for us:

Romans 8:34: Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is
also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for
us.

Hebrews 8:25: Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come
to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

We choose to pursue evil:

John 3:19: “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

We choose to pursue God’s will:

Romans 12:1-2: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
reasonable service, and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable
and perfect will of God.

We choose to live in bondage when we do not bring ourselves under subjection
(spiritually and physically)
two examples are:

II Peter 2:19-20: While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of
corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into
bondage. For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the
knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them
and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.

Proverbs 15:1:….but a harsh word stirs up anger.

James 1:26: If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his
tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

James 3:5: Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how
great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The
tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on
fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

We choose to live victoriously, believing the Word and bringing ourselves, our
bodies into subjection:

I Corinthians 9:27: But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I
have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

I Corinthians 10:13: No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to
man; but God is Faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are
able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able
to bear it.

I Corinthians 15:56-57: the sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 16:33: “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In
the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the
world.”

Ephesians 4:22-24:…that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man
which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit
of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to
God, in true righteousness and holiness.

We choose death through satan or life through Jesus Christ:

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16-17: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did
not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through
Him might be save.

II Timothy 4:9-10: Be diligent to come to me quickly, for Demas has forsaken me,
having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica-Crescens for
Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.

John 8:43-44: Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I
proceeded forth and came from God, nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.
Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My
word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to
do…..

John 1:4: In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

John 14:6: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through Me.”

John 10:27-28: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone snatch
them out of My hand…

Now I know I can go on and on but I’m sure you can think of many other examples of
choices we make. Next I want to talk about choice GOD made and help us see what
He sees. So please tune in next week for the conclusion to this message.

Blessings to you all
