Good morning friends. I hope the lessons on Spiritual Warfare have helped you
become more aware that as Christians our battles are not carnal but spiritual and
satan has pulled out all the plugs. He seems to be unaware that he is already
defeated….at Calvary.

We as Christians need to understand the power of The Christ that is ‘in’ us. I am
well aware that many of you already know the things we have been studying about,
but it is always good to revive that knowledge since we are on the brink of Christ’s

The first part we will discuss angels; how they help us, protect us, and bring us
Words from the Lord. We will also understand their ranks and positions in the
heavenlys as well as their physical appearance such as proof of eyes, ears,
mouths, wings, personality and attributes. I would like this week to add a lesson on
some facts about demons and angels. Facts I believe will help us to recognize his
disguises when he tries to cunningly invade our lives.
Let us get started.

As I began studying about angels and demons I found out there are all kinds of
information concerning them. There are many places we can look for information;
but the only true source is the Word of God….The Bible. Let us begin by seeing the
definition of an angel:

Strong’s Exhausted Concordance definition of
angel, in Greek (N/T) # 32 is Aggelos
meaning: One who brings tidings, messenger; angel.

Strong’s Exhausted Concordance definition of
angel, in Hebrew (O/T) # 4397 is Mal
(mal-awk’) meaning: To dispatch a deputy, a messenger especially from God,
ambassador, angel.

Angels hold different position, have different responsibilities and appearances but
they were all created by God. Let us first review some faces about angels:

1) Angels can speak:
Genesis 16:7-9: Now the Angel of the LORD found her by a
spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. And
He said,
“Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She
said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”
The Angel of the LORD
said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit yourself under her hand.”….

2) Angels can see: Ezekiel 10:11-12: When they went, they went toward any of their
four directions; they did not turn aside when they went, but followed in the
direction the head was facing. They did not turn aside when they went. And
whole body, with their back, their hands, their wings, and the wheels that the four
had, were
full of eyes all around. Revelation 4:6: Before the throne there was a sea
of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were
living creatures full of eyes in front and in back.

3) Angels have hands: Isaiah 6:6: Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in
his hand a live coal
which he had taken with the tongs from the altar…..Joshua 5:
13: “A man
(an Angel) stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And
Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” so He
(the Angel) said, “No, rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.….”
(New American Standard bible)

4) Angels are stronger/powerful than man, never die, never fail a mission: Acts 5:19-
20: But at night
an angel of the Lord, opened the prison doors and brought them
out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this
life.”….Matthew 28:2: And
behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the
descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door,
and sat on it.

5) The angels mostly seen take the form of humans: Genesis 18:2-4: “lo, three men
(Three Angels)
stood by him and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent
door, and bowed himself toward the ground, and said, My lord, if now I have found
favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee from thy servant:….John 20:12: And
she saw
two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet,
where the body of Jesus had lain.

6) Angels have feet; they eat: Genesis 18:3-4,8: ….and said, “My Lord, if I have now
found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. Please let a l
ittle water
be brought and wash your feet
, and rest yourselves under the tree….so he took
butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and
stood by them under the tree as they ate
….Isaiah 6:2: Above it stood seraphim;
each one had six
wings; with two he covered his face, with two he covered his
, and with two he flew.

7) Angels have limited knowledge and revelation; also given wisdom: Mark 13:32:
“But of that day and hour no one
knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the
Son, but only the Father….”….I Peter 1:12:
To them it was revealed that, not to
themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been
reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you
by the Holy
Spirit sent from heaven-things which angels desire to look into
…..“II Samuel 14:20;
“to bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my
lord is wise, according to the
wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that
is in the earth.”

8) Angels rejoice: Luke 15:10: Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of
the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

9) Angels have a language of their own: I Corinthians 13:1: Though I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love I have become sounding brass or
a clanging cymbal.

10) Angels appear visible and invisible: Genesis 19:1: Now the two angels came to
in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw
them, he rose to meet then, and he bowed himself
with his face toward the
ground….Hebrews 13:2:
Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some
have unwittingly entertained angels.

11) Angels are swift travelers and obedient: Ezekiel 1:14: And the living creatures
ran back and forth, in appearance
like a flash of lightning….Psalm 103:20: Bless the
LORD, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice
of His word.

12) Angels visit earth but live in heaven; continually worshipping God: II Chronicles
18:18:….I saw
the LORD sitting on His throne, and ‘all’ the host of heaven standing
on His right hand and His left….Isaiah 6:3: And one cried to another and said: Holy,
holy, holy is the LORD of hosts
; the whole earth is full of His glory!”

There are five (5) different kinds of angels spoken of in the Bible. Let us see who
they are and what their functions are:

Strong’s Exhausted Concordance Hebrew word #8314 is Seraph (seh-rah-feem)
meaning: Burning, fiery, burning ones.

Isaiah describes them as having six wings; with two they covered their face
not look upon the Glory of the Father)
, with two they covered their feet (In humility, submission),
and with two they flew (Obeyed God’s commands). Also notice they flew above/over the
throne of God. Their function was to cry out the holiness and awesomeness of God;
His glory and wonders He has done.

Seraphim are plural for Seraph which tells us there was several, probably many
‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!’ The
Hebrew word for holy
(Strong’s Exhausted Concordance # 6918 Qadowsh (kaw-doshe’) means:
To set apart, unapproachable this was because of His majestic holiness; however,
there can be a relationship because of Jesus Christ His only Begotten Son, our
Redeemer and Lord.

Romans 8:34: Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is
also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for

I Timothy 2:5-6: For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the
Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,….

I John 2:1: My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And
if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the
whole world.

We also learned that their appearance is like a fiery flame; they have a mouth to
One said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity is taken away,
and your sin purged.”
This did not mean they had power to forgive, but that was the
message from God.
They have hands because one took a ‘live’ coal from the altar,
which he took with tongs:
….having is his hand a live coal…. They have feet which
they covered with two he covered his feet, and
they have wings; with two he flew.
Not much else is known about them accept they protected the throne from above.

Strong’s Exhausted Concordance Hebrew word for Cherubim
(Strong’s Exhausted
Concordance #3742 is Kruwb (ker-oob’
) means: A cherubim, an imaginary figure, plural for

Wow! What a description; nothing like what we usually think an angel looks like
huh? In this Scripture
Ezekiel, not knowing or have ever seen anything like them;
though he knew they were alive, called them ‘living creatures’; later he calls them
cherubim (Ezekiel 10:20-21: this is the living creature I saw under the God of Israel
by the River Chebar, and I knew they were cherubim. Each one had four faces and
each one four wings and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings.
And the likeness of their faces was the same as the faces which I had seen by the
river Chebar, their appearance and their persons. They each went straight forward.

Let us discuss more about their appearance and what they represented:

2)CHERUBIM:    Ezekiel 1:4-14: Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming
out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and rightness was
all around it and radiating out of its midst like
the color of amber, out of the midst
of the fire. Also from within it came the likeness of four living creatures.  And this
was their appearance; they had the likeness
of a man. ‘Each’ one had four faces,
and each one had
four wings. Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet
were like the soles of calves’ feet
. They sparkled like the color of burnished
bronze. The
hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides, and each of
the four had faces and wings.
Their wings touched one another. The creatures did
not turn
when they went, but each one went straight forward. As for the likeness of
their faces,
each had the face of a man;(Man in perfection) each of the four had the
face of a lion (King of all kings) on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox
on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle (Deity).
Thus were their faces.
Their wings stretched upward; two wings of each one
touched one another, and two covered their bodies.
And each one went straight
forward; they went wherever the spirit wanted to go
, and they did not turn when
they went. As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like
burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches going back and forth among
the living creatures. The fire was bright, and out of the fire went lightning. And the
living creatures ran back and forth, in appearance like a flash of lightning.
1)        Color of amber; like a burning flame
2)        Appearance like a man
3)        Had four wings (seraphim’s have six wings)
4)        Four faces
5)        Hands of a man under their wings
6)        Legs that were straight
7)        Moved with the speed of lightning
The sound of this generation will sing a new song:
Unity  is the Key to Victory and Power
Part I

1)SERAPHIM:   Isaiah 6:1-3: In the year that King Uzziah died, I
saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the
train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim;
each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, with
two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried
to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
the whole earth is full of His glory!”
1)        Color of amber; like a burning flame
2)        Appearance like a man
3)        Had four wings (seraphim’s have six wings)
4)        Four faces
5)        Hands of a man under their wings
6)        Legs that were straight
7)        Moved with the speed of lightning
Let us dissect further:
In appearance they were flames of fire in the form of a man with four faces (Man,
lion, ox and eagle). Where the Seraphim’s were above the throne of God the
Cherubim’s were below the throne.

Ezekiel 10:1: :then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head
of the cherubim there appeared over them
(They were below the throne of God) as it were
a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.”

They had four wings not six as the Seraphim’s. The most characteristic distinction
between them were the four faces the Cherubim’s have; one like a man, one like a
lion, one like an ox and one like an eagle. These also spoke of the Christ who was
to be the supreme sacrifice for all mankind: The face of a man spoke of His
humanity, the face of a lion spoke of His Authority, the face of an ox spoke of His
sacrifice, His servanthood, and the face of an eagle spoke of His deity.

The Cherubim’s had hands under their wings on all four sides; this to me means
ready to obey God’s commands and serve mankind. They also moved with the
speed of lightning. They were joined by two wings above their heads, their legs
were straight and they followed wherever the spirit led. This is total and complete
unison….total unity at work. I want to repeat this part of the Scripture, it blew me
away; Listen:

Their wings stretched upward; two wings of each one touched one another
were connected, joined together)
, and two covered their bodies. And each one went
straight forward; they went wherever the spirit wanted to go, and they did not turn
when they went.
(Ezekiel 1:11-12)

Not only does this speak of unity in their mission but it says when they moved it
was so in unison that it did not seem like they moved at all. The reason it struck my
spirit so fervently is I had a similar experience one morning during worship time:

Then there appeared an angel, he stood right in front of me, not two feet away. He was glowing
and dressed in white to his feet. Right after seeing him I saw several angels drop down from heaven
lining up in a row right behind the first angel. I was so amazed! Then I heard the first angel say, ‘We are
angels on a new assignment.’

I was stunted and awed so I just sat there looking at them. Then I heard
the LORD say, “Write
the vision down.”
So I began writing what I was seeing.

There was such a feeling of holiness at the angels appearing I started to take my feet down from the
chair to bow, but one angel spoke and said, ‘Do not take your feet down to bow for we are creations as
you are a creation. We have come with gifts, promises and answers to prayers.’

I felt a shifting under me, something like a whirling wind but my feet were in something very solid. Parts
of me began to shake with excitement and holy fear.

The fear (carnal/earthly) of moving into the unknown was lost in the excitement of seeing and hearing
the angels…knowing the LORD was in the mist of the shifting…. As I sat there trembling in the holy
presence I saw one angel with what I knew was a mantle. Another angel had a script in his hand;
suddenly the angel with the mantel through it over my shoulders. The funny thing about what I saw was I
could see the angel standing in line but he did not seem to move when he threw the mantle over my
shoulders….how awesome is that!

3) LIVING CREATURES:          (One had the face of a lion)

These angels are associated with prophecy and worship. Listen to their description
quoted in
Revelation 4:6-7: Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal.
And in the midst of the throne and around the throne, were four living creatures
full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion,
(Christ as King
and kings and Lord of lords)
the second living creature like a calf, (Pure, like the sacrificial
Lamb for all mankind)
the third living creature had a face like a man, (The perfect man)
and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle
(His sovereignty and supremacy. The
four creatures representing Christ total deity)
. The four living creatures, each having six
wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night,
saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

There are several differences between these angels from the two mentioned
above. There were four of them; they dwelt ‘in the midst’ and ‘around’ the throne
where the Seraphim’s dwelt above the throne and the Cherubim below the throne.
Each one had a different face: One like a lion, one like a man, one like a calf and
one like a flying eagle. This differs from the Cherubim where each had four faces.

They also differ in they had six wings like the Seraphim’s not four like the Cherubim
they had eyes around and within. A couple of other things that differed were one
had the face of a calf not an ox and like the Seraphim’s they cried, “Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty….” These are some interesting differences but the next thing I
noticed was the following:

Revelation 5:6-7: And I looked, and behold, In the midst of the throne and of the
four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had
been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of
God sent out into all the earth. Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living
creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a
harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

These are awesome creatures which joined themselves with the twenty-four elders
‘each’ had a harp
(to worship) and golden bowls or vials which contained prayers of
the saints. Together they fell down and worshipped the Lamb….Jesus. That is why
in the next verses the living creatures could sing with the elders a new song:

Revelation 5:9-10: And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the
scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by
Your blood. Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made
us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”

You may be asking yourself how can angels sing the song of the redeemed; they
did not come from a tribe, people or nation and they do not need salvation. This is
how I understand it: They joined themselves with the twenty-four elders and with
them they carried harps and vials with the prayers of the saints….they ‘joined
together’; here they identified with the church therefore could sing with them. I
think that is an awesome thing. I do not understand it all but it is awesome!

Also these living creatures were part of another awesome end time event the
handing of the vials with the seven plagues to the angels:

Revelation 15:1-2, 6-7: Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous:
seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is
complete. And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who
have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the
number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God….And out
of the temple came the seven angels having the seven plagues, clothed in pure
bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden bands. Then one of the
four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the
wrath of God who lives forever and ever.

By these verses we see that the living creatures have a part in the end time
plagues; the wrath of God or the judgment of God. All of these angels are very
special and created for special duties, but these living creatures really fascinate

I know in other books and transcripts there are other archangels talked about, but
we will stick with what is in the Word. In the Bible only three archangels are

1)        Gabriel – Which means man of God
2)        Michael – Which means  like unto God
3)        Lucifer – Which means  light holder

I thought it very interesting that Gabriel and Michael both ended in ‘el’ which is the
word for God in the Hebrew language. This to me shows the awesomeness of God;
Him being the First and Last, Beginning and End; the all knowing Father.  Let us
see what the Word speaks about each one:

Gabriel:   His main commission was to stand in God’s
presence and to proclaim His Word in His presence and to

I Thessalonians 4:16: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead In Christ
will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the

This is one of the most powerful and awesome verses in the Word of God; bringing
hope to Christians everywhere. I believe this archangel was Gabriel because he
was to proclaim God’s Word and that is what he did. He interpreted Daniel’s vision

(Daniel 8:16-17)
, revealed prophecy of 70 weeks (Daniel 9:21-22), announced John the
Baptist birth
(Luke 1:18-19) as well as the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ (Luke 1:26-27)
and stands in the presence of God.

Luke 1:19: And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the
presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings….”

Michael:   Head of warring angels. His assignment was to protect
God’s people and quiet Israel’s fears; His name means ‘like unto
God’; a warrior for the people. One time he came fighting when
the prince of Persia was hindering an answer to prayer.

Daniel 10:12-13: then he said to me, “do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that
you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your
words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the
kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the
chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of

Another time he disputed with satan over the body of Moses, but knew his
authority boundaries.

Jude 9: Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed
about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but
said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

And he fought with the dragon. The Devil, when he and his following angels were
cast out of heaven.

Revelation 12: 7-9: And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought
with the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor
was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out,
that serpent of old called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he
was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

LUCIFER   Most beautiful archangel; created to lead heavens orchestra in music,
praise and worship. He was called anointed covering and walked in the presence
of God. He was a symphony in himself until he fell.

Ezekiel 28:12-13: “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to
him, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “You were the
1)seal of perfection 2)full of wisdom
3)perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious
stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The
4)workmanship of your timbrels
and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. You were the
anointed cherub who 6)covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of
7)you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones (Presence of God). You
were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in

Can you visualize what he looked like. Here are the color stones that arrayed his

Sardius   topaz     diamond     beryl     onyx     jasper     sapphire     turquoise,

                         emerald   and gold.

Can you imagine, can you picture the glowing flaming look about him and he walked
among the ‘fiery stones’; which means he had the authority to walk in the very
presence of the Almighty God. He was called ‘the anointed cherub’; a special
cherub because he was in charge of all the praise and worship in heaven and was
the only angelic created that held two offices: 1) Worship leader and 2) Covering
Cherub; elevated above the others.

Then he got incredibly stupid. Pride filled his heart believing he was greater than
his Creator; creation rising above the Creator. He said:

Isaiah 14:12-15: “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have
said in your heart:
1)‘I will ascend into heaven, 2)I will exalt my throne above the
stars of God;
3)I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides
of the north;
4)I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, 5)I will be like the
Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.

Pride destroyed his beauty                                 turning it into all ugliness .

The angels we as humans mostly see I like to call universal angels and they have
appeared to many throughout the ages. In the Word they are called by several
different names; such as:

Congregation of the mighty:
Psalm 82:1: God stands in the congregation of the

Sons of the mighty: Psalm 89:6: For who in the heavens can be compared to the
LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the LORD?

Watchers: Daniel 4:13: “I saw in the visions of my head while on my bed, and there
was a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven.

God’s host: Psalm 103:21: Bless the LORD, all you His hosts you ministers of His,
who do His pleasure.

Elect angels: I Timothy 5:21: I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and
the elect angels that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing
with partiality.

These awesome, marvelous amazing angelic beings bring us good news from the
Father and Jesus our Savior. They are guardians surrounding us lest we dash our
foot against a stone (Psalm 91:11). Also they have wonderful attributes,
characteristics, qualities; which some are listed in the beginning of these lesson.

I know this lesson has been long and there is still so much more to say on the
subject. My hope is that it will spike your interest to study more about the angelic
beings created by the Father and His Son; angels, messengers who devote
themselves to worship God and serving mankind.

Blessings to all
